Happy Mother's Day

So today was a fairly average day around here. Travis and the girl's made me breakfast and we hung out at home most of the day. Our next door neighbors, K & J invited Aven to go swimming with them around 6 p.m. Aven was thrilled to finally go swimming. She's been asking everyday..."is it hot outside?" We say yes. She then says, "Is it hot enough to swim?" She was thrilled that is was finally hot enough to swim.

After swimming, K bundled her up in her favorite Strawberry Shortcake towel. Although it's hot enough to swim, the water is VERY cold. Once the kids were bundled up, they headed towards the car. Aven tripped on something (probably her own feet) and landed chin down on the concrete. Her arms were bundled up so she was unable to catch herself on the way down.

K & J called and warned us that she had split her chin. When she got home, we inspected it and decided we need to have it checked out by a doctor. Thank goodness for all these wonderful emergency clinics they have built. We were at the clinic within 10 minutes and seen immediately. The doc decided stitches were the best bet due to the location of the cut.

Here come the tears. Aven was not happy. It took 2 nurses, plus Travis and myself to hold her down. While the doc had the needle in her chin she kept yelling "stop doing this to me!" It broke my heart. Unfortunately, it seemed like forever to inject the numbing solution. She calmed down a little after that, but immediately started up again for the stitches. By time the third stitch was being installed, she was crying that it hurt. The doc said he could numb it more, but I figured the shot would hurt as much as the final stitch, so he finished it up.

Aven was a real trooper. Trav and I are both very impressed with her during this whole ordeal. Tomorrow night, Trav and her are going to get dressed up and go get banana splits in honor of her splitting her chin! :)
